Location: Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand

How do I know it’s ethical?

It is an official Elephant Sanctuary in Thailand. It has received multiple awards from big names like the Smithsonian. They have been featured in National Geographic magazine and many others.

Description of the Experience

A trip to the Elephant Nature Park includes transportation to and from the park. You’ll watch a quick video in the van to learn the history of the abuse of elephants in Thailand and other parts of Southeastern Asia. They will teach you what their goal is as an organization. They rescue elephants that were used in forced labor, or other industries around Thailand/ Southeast Asia. You will get to walk around the park and learn about each elephant’s story. You will have the opportunity to feed the elephants fruit, and interact with them in the river by splashing water over them. Everything is based on the Elephants comfort levels. Some elephants are quick to come up and interact whereas others aren’t as open to getting close to humans. You will also have the opportunity to see their other rescued animals including dogs, cats, horses, buffalos, and more!

Your guide will walk you around the park and introduce you to a variety of elephants who have all experienced the misfortune of forced labor at some point in their lives. Each elephant has a 1:1 caregiver that stays with them 24/7. They care for the elephant and ensure all of their needs are met. There are options for volunteering here, and they have the option to purchase locally made items in their gift shop.

Company/ Cost:

$100

You can book on their website. I highly recommend you book ahead of time to ensure there is enough space for you on the desired date.
