Finland is a Nordic country often bypassed by travelers. Even when I visited, people seemed surprised that I’d actually WANT to go there. Then I explained the natural beauty, interesting history, and of course the chance to see the Aurora Borealis. Then it clicked.
Finland’s peaceful personality is found in its people, laws, and nature. While reserved, the people of Finland are friendly and proud of their history and how far they’ve come in a short time. Helsinki is a calmer city than the hustle of larger European cities. Casually strolling the streets is not only possible but recommended, and the architecture is beautifully detailed.
The stunning Lapland region of the country is home to incredible nature. The miles of forests dotted with lakes are perfect for both summer and winter activities. Be sure to pack plenty of layers; the cold and dark don’t stop the Finnish people from living and enjoying life.
