Spring is one of my favorite times of the year. The sun comes out more, the air is nice and fresh from the rain, and it is a lot warmer. There are so many fun things to do in the springtime, especially outdoor adventures! Here are some of the best places to visit in spring in Maryland with your family.

What is There To Do in Maryland for Spring Break with Kids?
There are plenty of fun things to do in Maryland during your child’s spring break. Take them out in nature and hike, play at the beach, go to playgrounds, or many other fun adventures indoors too.
What is the Weather Like in Spring in Maryland?
You can expect highs anywhere between 50-70 degrees and lows between 30 to 50 degrees. During the spring months, there is some rain, with May having the most rain. Most often, it will be very nice weather to be outside with your kids.
Fun Places to Visit in Spring in Maryland with Your Family
Here are some of my favorite places in Maryland to visit during the spring with your entire family. Some are better for younger kids and others for older kids. Your entire family should enjoy these ideas!
1. Quiet Waters Park Annapolis
Quiet Waters Park is located in Annapolis and is a great place to visit during the spring. It is over 340 acres with plenty of fun things to do there.
There is a fun multi-level playground for younger kids to enjoy playing outside when it is warming up and plenty of picnic areas with pavilions for parents to enjoy the fresh air.
Spend some time at the Visitor’s Center of the park to find a beautiful formal garden with a water fountain as well as an art gallery. You can even spend the day doing a scavenger hunt in Annapolis.
Bring your bikes and enjoy the many trails to ride on. If you don’t want to take your bikes, you can always go on some peaceful nature walks or hikes with your kids as well.
They even have water equipment available to rent, so you can paddleboard, kayak, canoe, or boat out along the river!
2. Hike by Waterfalls
As it slowly warms up in spring, why not go on a hike to see a beautiful waterfall! With the rain during these months, it will be a roaring one for sure!
The Cascade Falls at Patapsco Valley State Park is super easy and is around a mile round trip. There is a nice waterfall at the end with a nice water area, but it might be a little too cold to play in the water just yet.
If your family wants to explore the biggest waterfall in Maryland, go to Cunningham Falls. You can’t play in the water here, but it is a stunning waterfall worth seeing. It is another shorter hike at around a mile round trip.
Swallow Falls has both a long and short hike that families will enjoy as well. There are multiple waterfalls here for everyone to enjoy.
3. ClimbZone
During spring break, take your family to ClimbZone in Laurel, Maryland! With over 75 different climbing walls, there is something for everyone to enjoy. This is a great family-building experience as you can all encourage each other to reach the top. It will definitely create a fun family memory you’ll look back on.
While there are many rock wall climbing places, ClimbZone specifically caters to families and children. Younger kids will love climbing up Rapunzel’s tower, while older kids will love racing up a keyboard or dragon. Check out our amazing experience at Climbzone Maryland.
4. Playgrounds
When it is a nice day outside, head to a playground and let your child get their energy out while running, sliding, jumping, and exploring in a safe environment. Prince George’s County has imagination playgrounds with some incredible themes that your kids will want to spend hours at.
From dragons to pirates, castles, and white water fun, you won’t find any cooler playgrounds than these! All over Maryland, you will find playgrounds that are accessible to all children, no matter their struggles.
5. Ocean City
Who doesn’t love a trip to the beach? Walk, skate, or bike on the boardwalk and enjoy the serenity that comes from looking at the ocean. You probably won’t want to play in the water quite yet, but you can still enjoy being in this peaceful place with your family.
Plus, there are plenty of other fun things to do in Ocean City!
6. Brookside Gardens
The best part about spring is, of course, the bright, colorful flowers! There are plenty of spring flowers in Maryland at Brookside Gardens. You will see some incredibly stunning tulips that will fill your heart with joy. It is the perfect place for a springtime family photo!
Brookside Gardens puts on a butterfly exhibit called the Wings of Fancy between April and September. You’ll get up close to see beautiful butterflies from around the world, and your kids will be able to learn all the stages of a butterfly’s life.
There is even a special children’s garden that younger kids will love to explore too! It is one of the best areas to be out in nature and simply relax.
You will find all sorts of blossoming flowers and trees that will make you love spring! It is probably one of the best times to visit Brookside Gardens, so don’t miss out on this one.
7. National Aquarium
On a rainy, cooler spring day, head to the aquarium as a family and enjoy all the sea life you will discover. The National Aquarium in Baltimore is one of the best in the United States.
Kids will love all the interactive exhibits like the touch pools, where they will experience underwater life through sensory play. See incredible sharks in Sharks Alley, dolphins, a variety of jellyfish, and so much more.
You could easily spend a few hours at this family-friendly aquarium. They even have special family tours if you want to!
8. Adventure Parks
Adventure parks have so many fun things to do that are perfect during the springtime with your family. From ziplines to rope courses, this is the perfect place to visit with older kids and teenagers.
Terrapin Adventures is located in Savage, Maryland. Here your family will learn to trust each other as you climb through rope courses and zoom down zip lines. It is a family-friendly place you’ll want to visit all the time.
You can enjoy a 43-foot climbing wall, a huge 3-story high swing, a 19 challenges ropes course, and a 330-foot zipline. This will get your adrenaline pumping and will be the best family trip ever!
GoApe is another fun adventure park with rope courses and ziplines and is located in Derwood, Maryland. Here you will find a suspended obstacle course, ax throwing, ziplines, and a 40-foot monkey drop. There is even a smaller ropes course for children to enjoy as well.
9. Trampoline Park
All families will have a blast at a trampoline park! There are a few Sky Zones across Maryland that are great for the family to visit during spring.
At the Columbia Sky Zone, small children can enjoy a few hours each morning to jump, play, and explore the different stations with kids the same age. However, there are a ton more amazing things to do here, including a ninja course, climbing walls, jumping pads, a foam zone, and so much more.

10. Mini Golf
On a nice, sunny spring day, head over and have a friendly family competition with some mini-golf. Nick’s Mini Golf is spread all along the beach in Maryland and has the best mini golf courses I’ve ever seen.
Kids will love playing with you as you go through these fun courses, such as Maui, Jurassic Golf, Dinoland, Pirates, and many others.
If the weather isn’t so great, there are plenty of fun indoor mini-golf courses as well. Jurassic Golf and Arcade in Harford County has a dinosaur blacklight indoor golf course that the whole family will love!
11. Chesapeake Children’s Museum
Another fun place to visit in the spring in Maryland with the family is Chesapeake Children’s Museum, located in Annapolis. This is a cute little museum for younger children and their families to explore and learn through play.
The Children’s Museum offers a hands-on experience for your little ones. It is surrounded by nature, and they even offer a nature scavenger hunt to do together as a family!
During the spring, you can get a family spring membership and visit as often as you would like! They also have play-at-home kits to rent out that your child will love to do on those cold, rainy days.

12. Petting Farm
Kids absolutely love all different types of animals, so take them to a petting zoo! There are countless petting zoos and farms spread all throughout Maryland, so there has to be one close to your home.
Clark’s Elioak Farm opens in April and is the perfect petting farm to visit with your family. Here you can discover pigs, goats, donkeys, chickens, horses, turkeys, ducks, bunnies, baby chicks, and so much more.
Not only is there a petting zoo here, but you can also enjoy a pony ride, cow train ride, and an entire enchanted forest full of fun adventures.
Spring is the perfect time to visit a petting farm because it is usually when all the baby animals arrive! Here are some other great petting farms in Maryland.
13. Pick Your Own Berries
During the end of springtime, in late May, and throughout the summer, you can pick your own berries! You might find some good strawberries in April, but they are usually best in May or June.
There are plenty of pick-your-own farms all throughout Maryland that will give your family a fun experience picking your own produce together.
Emily’s Produce offers delicious strawberries starting May 5th. While you are there, you can enjoy some handmade ice cream and pick your own gorgeous flowers too! This farm is located in Cambridge, Maryland.
Gorman Farm has a strawberry fest where you can pick your own strawberries and enjoy this tasty fruit. This farm is located in Highland, and strawberry season here begins in mid-May. It is open seven days a week and is very good about keeping up to date on how many strawberries are left to be picked!
There are many more places to go strawberry picking in Maryland.
14. Indoor Play Places
Indoor Play Places are always a good option for kids, especially during spring break. Each play place will have its own age limits, but most are for younger children under the age of 12 years old.
The Litte’s Town is for children under 8 years old and has many hands-on learning activities that are super fun. Your kids won’t even know they are learning; they will just be playing and having tons of fun! You’ll find a campsite, bank, animal hospital, auto zone, salon, and so much more.
